Is AI plagiarizing, or doing what writers have always done?

In this episode of Your AI Injection, host Deep Dhillon talks with Andrew Levy, a poet, essayist, and journalism professor who has written more than a dozen books. Deep took Andrew's poetry classes at Illinois Tech, where exercises like cutting up William Blake poems pushed students outside their habitual ways of making meaning. Deep now builds AI writing systems on that idea, and says it takes far more effort than prompting a chatbot for an essay.

Andrew says writers and artists have long borrowed, and that "appropriation" is the more comfortable word for it. But in classrooms where students now have AI write entire papers, he sees something different. They discuss whether AI extends the tradition of borrowing or skips the work that made it meaningful. If originality was never as solid as we assumed, what does authorship mean when a machine is part of the process?
